“The journey there led me through spectacular scenery”

Lady Bird Johnson writing to John Coolidge from the LBJ Ranch in Texas: October 18, 1995.

Johnson thanks John Coolidge for his hospitality during her visit to the Calvin Coolidge homestead. Mrs. Johnson first met John when she visited Plymouth Notch in June 1967. According to the New York Times, “Mrs. Lyndon B. Johnson toured the home of the 30th president and affixed a plaque that marked it as a ‘national historic landmark.’” The Times also said of the 1967 visit that “Mrs. Johnson brought a gift, a colored photograph of herself standing beside a larger-than-life oil painting of Mrs. Calvin Coolidge that hangs in the White House.”
