“The Post has come out for me today”

Calvin Coolidge writing his father, 10 days before the Massachusetts gubernatorial election: October 25, 1919.

Still uncertain about the outcome, Coolidge expresses pride in the Boston Post supporting him. “It is a great event to come down here and make a great Democratic paper support me, greater than being chosen governor.” The election was a rematch of the previous contest, where Coolidge had only bested businessman Richard Long with just over 50% of the vote. This time, Coolidge triumphed, winning over 60% of the vote.
