“The Thanksgiving recess will be a fine time to stay there”

President Coolidge to his son: November 18, 1924.

Ever the academic disciplinarian, Coolidge advises his son John to study harder in college, particularly in French. John had just enrolled at Amherst, Coolidge’s alma mater. Coolidge advises John to avoid distractions and to pay singular attention to his academic work, even going so far as to recommend that he stay at college for the Thanksgiving break to study.
