“Our little white puppy is growing to be quite a large dog”

Calvin Coolidge writing his father: December 22, 1925.

Colonel Coolidge was still suffering from his “heart block” and was being cared for by his nurse, May Johnson. Coolidge goes on to comment on Attorney General and Ludlow native John Sargent’ Christmas trip to Vermont, noting that Sargent is likely to call on him in Plymouth.

Coolidge ends by commenting on the growth of the “little white puppy,” Prudence Prim, and “the old dog,” Rob Roy. In December 1925, Rob Roy was about 3 years old. Although Prudence Prim will go on to be Grace’s favorite, Rob Roy will be immortalized in the First Lady’s official White House portrait.
